Joint Center for Energy Storage Research Announced |
Posted on: 11/30/2012 12:00:00 AM... The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced on November 30 that a multi-partner team helmed by Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) will lead the charge to establish a batteries and energy storage hub. Known as the Center for Energy Storage Research (JCESR), this newest DOE Energy Innovation Hub combines the resources and expertise of five national laboratories, five universities, and four private firms to shorten the path to commercialization for promising advanced energy storage technologies.
Receiving an award of up to $120 million over five years, JCESR was selected through an open national competition with a rigorous merit review process. In addition to ANL, JCESR partners include Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratories, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, Northwestern University, University of Chicago, University of Illinois-Chicago, University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign, University of Michigan, Dow Chemical Company, Applied Materials, Inc., Johnson Controls, Inc., and Clean Energy Trust.
