TMS 2013 Offers Robust Platform for Learning and Dialogue on Energy Topics, Materials Sustainability |
Abstracts Accepted until July 31
Posted on: 7/10/2012 12:00:00 AM... The role and importance of materials in securing a more sustainable, energy-efficient future will be explored at the TMS 2013 Annual Meeting and Exhibition in a Materials and Society technical track focused on energy topics, as well as one of the premiere international forums on materials resource sustainability.
Materials science and engineering professionals who wish to share their knowledge and perspectives on these issues have until July 31 to submit their abstracts for consideration. TMS 2013 will take place from March 3 through 7 in San Antonio, Texas.
The theme of the Materials and Society technical track for 2013 is “Energy Technology, Policy, and Education.” In addition to updates on the latest technical developments in implementing new energy systems, enhancing existing systems, and making materials processing more energy efficient, the program will offer insights from policy makers and educators on key energy materials issues. Additional details, including full descriptions of the symposia and abstract submission instructions, are available at this link.
Specific symposia topics include:
- Alloys and Compounds for Thermoelectric and Solar Cell Applications
- Advanced Materials for Power Electronics, Power Conditioning, and Power Conversion
- Battery Recycling
- Energy Technologies and Carbon Dioxide Management
- Magnetic Materials for Energy Applications-III
- Materials in Clean Power Systems VIII: Durability of Materials
- Materials and Fuels for the Current and Advanced Nuclear Reactors II
- Materials Science of Nuclear Waste Management
- Nanostructured Materials for Lithium-Ion Batteries and Supercapacitors
- Pb-Free Solders and Emerging Interconnect and Packaging Solutions
- Solar Cell Silicon
Individuals interested in examining a breadth of environmental sustainability issues that are interwoven with the use, processing, and production of materials should consider submitting an abstract to REWAS 2013 (Recycling, Waste Treatment, and Clean Technology Symposium), co-located at TMS 2013. REWAS 2013 takes a global view of materials sustainability and its impact on all sectors of society, with particular focus on transportation, the built environment, electrical and electronic equipment and infrastructure, energy production and storage, and water systems.
REWAS 2013 is specifically seeking abstracts in the following topic areas, submitted via this link:
- Measuring Sustainability
- Sustainable Technologies
- Sustainability in Education
While REWAS 2013 and the Materials and Society technical track offer concentrated programming on sustainability issues, related topics can be found throughout TMS 2013’s technical agenda, including symposia on Production, Refining and Recycling of Rare Earth Metals and Recycling General Sessions in the Materials Processing and Production track, as well as Advanced Materials and Reservoir Engineering for Extreme Oil & Gas Environments in the Nanoscale and Amorphous Materials track.
